The "Carlo F. Dondena" Centre for Research on Social Dynamics (Dondena) is an international, interdisciplinary centre for social science research of relevance to individuals, businesses, institutions and economies. At its core is a focus on social dynamics and populations in their economic, organizational and policy contexts. Dondena 's work builds on theories derived from cognitive science, demography, economics, epidemiology, history, psychology and sociology. Its researchers make use of large-scale quantitative data and adopt innovative analytical methods to understand and evaluate complex relationships and changes over time.

 

The main areas of research in Dondena are:

Demography and the life course. Family and fertility issues, economics of the family and marriage markets, ageing and intergenerational relationships, childhood, adolescence and the transition to adulthood, demographic forecasting and related scenarios.

Policy modelling, health and well-being. Models for disease spread and prevention, social dynamics and epidemics, sexual and reproductive health, social differentials in health outcomes, subjective well-being, statistical and econometric models for policy evaluation, data harmonisation and dissemination, agent-based models, social network analysis.

Economic and social dynamics in long-term and comparative perspective. Social norms, religion, family history, human capital, long-term impact of epidemics, historical demography, wealth distribution, diffusion of ideas and behaviours.

Behaviour, cognition, decision. Behavioural, and psychological models of decision-making, theoretical and applied decision theory, online interaction and learning, cognitive science, experimental and neuro-experimental decision science.

Researchers involved in the Centre include demographers, economists, experts in law, political scientists, social psychologists, and statisticians.
